Level III Group Groundwork

Groundwork III challenges strength and flexibility along with introducing coordination through groundwork based exercises. Must be attending class 2-3 days per week to participate. Groundwork is based on Joseph Pilates original mat exercises. Mr Pilates created this exercise sequence to rid himself of asthma and strengthen his sickly body. He taught his regime to other soldiers in an internment camp he was in during WWI. The soldiers who practiced his regime remained healthy as an influenza epidemic swept through the camp and took many lives. Because of this and his success in rehabbing amputee patients during WWI he was asked to train the German National Army later called the Nazi Army. He refused and moved to the United States. In the US he started training dancers and gymnasts and created many more pieces of equipment.
